Abstract
Abstract:

The purpose of this article is to explain the relationship between economic corruption and media freedom and to provide a solution to reduce and control economic corruption in the framework of the political economy of communications. According to the purpose and nature of the research, the quantitative research method has been used. The research samples include 30 countries, which were selected based on the corruption perception index and the media freedom index in an 8-year period from 2012 to 2019, the method of data collection is descriptive and in the form of correlational research and data analysis using the regression method. And it has been done using the panel data model. The result indicates the acceptance of the "research hypothesis" regarding the significant and opposite effect of media freedom on economic corruption in different countries of the world. In this research, by using the supervisory role of the media in the framework of the political economy of communication and considering the media system that governs each country, the situation of economic corruption can be analyzed and investigated. Economic corruption will not have defensible achievements without considering the role and influence of free media activity and without considering the media system ruling the countries.

Keywords: economic corruption, corruption perception index, media freedom index, the regulatory role of media, the political economy of communication.
