Abstract
Memory is intertwined with history, and the loss of memory leads to the loss of history. History is a collection of events and sub-events that are recorded within things and people. This recording takes place in memory for humans, and memory has a historical place. The main purpose of this article is to discuss the central and classic role of memory in relation to history, in the paradigm of posthumanism. Our main claim is that in the digital age, memory is interwoven into external memories and information archives. This idea is examined in the context of the critical memory of Iranian women. How has the critical memory of women transformed in the digital age? To answer this question, we focused on creating the capacity to archive the events of the women's social movement and converting it into a source of remembrance. We studied examples from the social networks Instagram and X (Twitter) that show this transformation. According to the conclusion, for the Iranian women's movement, the tension between the human force of memory and the non-human forces of digital memory has led to the formation of critical remembrance and repetition for the production of critical identity.
