Abstract

Presence at virtual space and use of the net, particularly constantly and permanently versus secondarily , and or with professional and semi- professional motivation versus entertainment montivations would have various and profound effects on the different aspects of identity as well as life style of Iranian users, especially  youth –as a largest group of people engaging through he space- in terms of the features , facilities and opportunities of this space and the social, cultural and ecomomic state of youth in transition metropolitans. In fact, Iranian users regarding their subjective and objective in their real world and also their kind and degree of usage of the net would receive different and broad changes gradually. In this paper we study the social effect of presence at virtual space and use of the net –as a new communication technology- on the various dimensions of identity, attitudes, and positions of Iranian users. The findings have been gathered through qualitative method and some techniques like in – depth interview, field research among 10 professional users as well as participative observations and content analysis of some weblogs. The study reveals that constant use of the net and especially interaction and exchang of information with other users will lead to constituting of modern and reflexive identity among the users. Meanwhile, the rate, kind and way of use and also the management of the self by Iranian users at virtual space will affect the quality and quantity of identity change of users .
