Abstract

Presenting the Foucauldian and Weberian definitions of political legitimacy discourse, the paper studies how media is implemented to spread the political legitimacy of the self discourse. The case study of the paper is a CNN documentary entitled ‘the Revolutionary Journey’ by Christian Amanpour. Theoretically the paper is based on Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis approach which explores some aspects of the formation of discourses. The paper concludes that, at the time of the production of the media text under study, media texts produced by the Reformist and Conservative discourses give way to a discursive reading by other media, and audience that has no direct relationship with the two power discourses present in the Iranian society.
