Abstract
The current study investigates a selection of sci-fi movies about Artificial Intelligence in order to understand how the writers, filmmakers and futurologists see the future of human societies. The study uses thematic analysis and tries to break down the content of the movies to the smallest possible features in order to provide three sets of results: “the future technologies depicted in the movies”, “the utopian characteristics of the future societies shown in the movies” and “the dystopian characteristics of the future societies shown in the movies”. The article argues that through the human history people have voiced their hopes and concerns through literature, mythology and more recently science fiction. Nowadays a part of that responsibility has fallen to the works in the field of artificial intelligence.
