Abstract

Student organizations offer opportunities for participation and learning. These institutions are affected by harms that hinder the growth and expansion of social participation in the university and so in society. By recognizing the harms and providing a way out of it, social participation can be improved. This article examines the existing rules and procedures on student organizations with an institutional approach and indicators such as reducing uncertainty, gathering information and preferences, and establishing and enforcing rules related to social participation. The research question is what are the obstacles to the growth of social participation in the interaction of student organizations with the university complex? For this purpose, the qualitative method and research of the instrumental case study in the form of five interviews have been used. According to the findings and interpretation of the data in the institutional framework, the disadvantages of student organizations towards social participation include the lack of providing a suitable model for practicing social participation, the weakness of extra-organizational communication; Lack of information aggregation and preferences, lack of institutionalization for collective participation; Disruption of the mission of organizations, the inadequacy of regulations in promoting collective awareness, inefficiency in methodical participation and achieving collective goals. The current form of participation of student organizations in the affairs of the university, which is related to the public good of students, hinders the growth and expansion of social participation in the university and, so, society. The way out of this situation is to create a student parliament in the university.
