Abstract

Regarding to this paper, there is a significant relationship between power and ideology in transferring messages through the news from one language to the other. In fact, ideology does play a role in translating journalistic texts and making policies and decisions in the news media. The present paper studies the representation of “ideologized” news texts in translating news from the source to the destination language. It also seeks to investigate different aspects of ideologies hidden in the translated media texts (English to Persian) within the prevailing discourse. Critical Discourse Analysis is used to analyze the sampled translated news published in the Iranian press. Findings of this study suggest there is a direct relationship between power, ideology and the language of press and this relationship affects the way media translators convey messages in a news story under the influence of the discourse and ideology.
